May 20-24
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Here’s what we accomplished this week in language arts-
Outsiders: This week students completed the rough draft of their persuasive business letters. After completing their drafts, students worked on revising and editing their letters. Once all letters were completed, students assessed themselves according to the rubric. In addition to finishing our letters, we also reviewed and took our final test on The Outsiders. Next week, we will watch and discuss the movie adaptation of the novel. We will also write a friendly letter to an influential teacher and reflect on the year in language arts.
Fahrenheit 451: This week students reviewed for a final test on theme, worked on a character collage, solved a crossword puzzle, and took part in a banned book café. For the banned book café, students rotated to different stations and learned about the reasons as to why various class novels were challenged/banned. In addition to our café, students also began work on a flip grid. For their flip grid assignment, students are making a short video about a book that they would save and become in a futuristic society. Next week, students will share their collages and flip grids. We will also watch and discuss the movie adaptation of Fahrenheit 451, write a friendly letter to an influential teacher and reflect on the year in language arts.
Writing: See Each Novel Above
Grammar: This week we continued to practice for the final exam by writing sentences using particular words as particular parts of speech.
ELA Final Exam: The ELA exam will be Friday, May 31st. It will consist of students writing their own grammar sentences and answering multiple choice reading comprehension questions.
