January 22-25
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Here’s what we accomplished this week in language arts-
Reading: This week we discussed background information about the author of Night, Elie Wiesel. We also discussed an essay that Elie Wiesel wrote titled “This I Believe”, and we discussed an article about what it was like to be Jewish while living in Europe before the Holocaust. Finally we watched and discussed a Steven Spielberg documentary called “The Last Days”. Next week we will begin reading the novel, Night. We will also learn more about Hitler’s final solution and the importance that German women and children played during the war effort.
Writing: This week some students are finishing up the essay portion of their midterm exam.
Grammar: This week we continued to practice noun direct objects, predicate nouns, and predicate adjectives. Next week, we will continue to practice these concepts until students are comfortable with them.
Book Review: Students were asked to again pick out a fiction reading book at their interest/reading level of about 200 pages. Goal 3 reading will be due on Wednesday, January 30th. Students are either completing goal notes at home or writing an in class summary.
Midterm Exam: As soon as all the exams are finished, I will pass them back and go over the results with students.
