October 23-26
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Here’s what we accomplished this week in language arts-
Reading: This week we read a chapter from The Adventures of Ulysses titled, “Scylla and Charybdis”. After reading and discussing the chapter, students were introduced to the Monster Project. Each student has been asked to create their own mythical monster with an illustration – monster and domain, back story, and method of destruction/features. In addition to working on the monster project, we also viewed and discussed two constellation myths in preparation for writing our own Greek Myths. Students watched the constellation myths of Orion and Andromeda. Finally, we ended the week by beginning to brainstorm for the writing of our own Greek myth. Each student chose a constellation and began brainstorming ideas for their characters, setting, conflict, and resolution. Next week we will focus on writing our rough drafts. All Monster Projects will be due Tuesday, October 3oth
7+ - In addition to the above, students also read and discussed Chapter 12, The Cattle of the Sun, Chapter 13, Calypso, Chapter 14, Ino’s Veil, Chapter 15, Nausicaa, and Chapter 16, The Return.
\Writing: On Friday, students received back their graded Pandora Assessments and their graded essays. After looking over each assignment and discussing its feedback, I had students write a reflection of their first quarter based on their current reading, writing, and grammar progress thus far.
Grammar: This week students practiced concepts already taught.
Book Review: This week students completed a book review of their first quarter book. For this book review, students were asked about their book’s characters, setting, conflict, rising action, climactic moment, and resolution. Students were also asked to write a reflection of their novel by providing reasons and explanations to support their argument.
